10/1/08
10/1/08 7:41 pm I've had two beers: a Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and a Boddingtons. And today was 5 days in a row of 1-hour workouts. Whew. Both High Intensity Lateral thigh trainer (Go!) and weight training. Whew! Advil and the next two days off.
10/1/08 I worked at the computer on a pencil drg from a reference photo. Had to keep erasing and redrawing and erasing and redrawing: getting rid of the correct "Life Drawing" quality and: saying more with fewer lines.
10/1/08 This evening (after a really big Panko chicken salad - Steve said I made too much salad and I said give me the rest of the salad) - I've been reworking the Steve/Mooshie drawing on the gessoed canvas scrap. I like it better. Just keep erasing and redrawing.
10/1/08 9:33 pm Well. After all that - I went back to my original drg of the cheesecake pose, and worked on it. And I like it. It's fine. What was that? A crisis of confidence? I seem to have those a lot.
This is the original photo from 1996 in Memphis.
10/2/08 12:41 pm Georgetown: Baked & Wired. Texas Sheetcake Cupcake: Ohhhh 8:39 pm Exhausted! Walked all over Georgetown! Incl. Exorcist Steps. Ethiopian Dinner. More tomorrow. Exhausted!
10/3/08 2:06 pm We saw Congress in action. Or Congress inaction. More late. BJ & I are killing time at Union Station, waiting for Alan. 8:42 pm I drank a Punkin Ale too fast (at home) and am currently drunk.
10/4/08 8:07 pm A Not-Much-Happened-Saturday. Slept in. Went to the Mall. Grocery store. Made Texas Sheet Cake. Will explain when I catch up. About the sheet cake. Now I'm watching my taped premiere of Sanctuary.
10/4/08
10/5/08 7:54 pm Quiet Sunday. Steve said I was tossing all night. I don't feel like I slept well. I've been sleepy all day. I scanned and posted the last few days of September. Other than that, I've been pretty useless all day. Useless. I think it was 3 pm when I showered.
10/5/08 BTW, I emailed Mike and Corey about the "Don't Make Me Roll For Initiative" bumper sticker. Corey said that's a D&D bumper sticker. / The browned cheese from the calzones reminded me of the BRD at Squash. [Squash Blossom Market in Memphis.] Bean & Rice Delight = Beans, rice & cheese, with a layer of cheese on top. If the cooks burned it, they peeled it off & redid the cheese. I ate a lot of burned cheese.
10/5/08 So, BJ and Alan arrived Thursday morning. Alan was attending a conference on Emotional Intelligence. BJ explored Georgetown with us - that's where their hotel was, and the conference was at Georgetown U. I wanted to find the Exorcist Steps. We walked a LOT. BJ wanted lunch with a view of the water.
10/5/08 We got a map and a guy at the Info Desk in a mall told us go to the Harbor. We found several restaurants. We picked one, but they opened at 11:30, and it was 11:15. We hung around outside on the boardwalk till they opened. Steve and I had mediocre crabcake sandwiches.
10/5/08 While walking back up to the main street, I realized we were at Baked & Wired - a cupcake bakery. We had to go in. I got a Texas Sheet Cake Cupcake. Yum. Steve got a cup of coffee, and got me an iced tea. He liked the cupcake so much he got his own. Very interesting - no paper liner.
10/5/08 I mean no traditional cupcake liner. They are lined with folded baking parchment paper. Very interesting - I have no idea how they do that. We went back to the hotel for awhile. Then met Alan for dinner. Steve spotted an Ethiopian restaurant earlier. Zed's? At the beginning of our walk.
10/5/08 I thought I spotted Newt Gingrich on a cell phone at the gas station/car repair across the street. Neither BJ nor Steve saw him. Oh, wait - I forgot the Exorcist steps. We walked up a street looking at shops, then walked parallel to M. All the way up to 36th. And we found the Exorcist house and steps.
10/5/08 We walked down the steps, then back up M St. Anyway, BJ suggested dinner at the Ethiopian restaurant. And she'd never had Ethiopian. It was SO GOOD. After dinner, Alan went to a conference reception, so we went home. We were exhausted. I couldn't stay up for the VP debate.
10/5/08 We taped it, but I decided later not to watch it. I got the highlights on the news. Steve's legs were aching - a lot, like more than just from walking. Maybe his cholesterol medicine again? Friday he got up with me, but at Greenbelt his knees hurt so much he went back to the car.
10/5/08 So he went home and I went to meet BJ at the Capitol. We took the regular tour, but BJ wanted to go inside the House Chambers. They told us to go to any rep from our state across the street and get a pass. We ran over and found some guy from Georgia. Then more waiting -
10/5/08 We had to wait in line outside security, then right outside security checkpoint, then inside the building, then upstairs, then we had to check all our stuff - purses even, then had to wait outside the Chambers. Then we got in. After 20 minutes they kicked us out. We could have returned.
10/5/08 But we would have had to go back three lines before, and wait again. It was a lot of: "I yield to the gentleman who just yielded." Steve was home watching it on CSPAN - he texted me something like that. I'll look it up later when I turn my cell on. Most of them said they didn't want to vote for the Bailout Bill, but would. Steve texted: I'm yielding to the gentleman who yielded.
10/5/08 BJ and I walked to Union Station for lunch. Steve called at 2:30 to say the bill passed. We hung out at Union Station till Alan called, then went back to Georgetown. We took Metro. Then picked up their luggage, and took a cab to G'town U. to meet Alan. We had dinner in this cafeteria place with sushi.
10/5/08 Then I rode with them to Reagan airport, and took Metro home from there. And Steve came to get me. I was exhausted. Which is why the beer went right to my head. Also: I told Steve I had a recipe for Texas Sheet Cake from Texas. He demanded I make the cake for us. Which I did yesterday.
10/5/08 It's not a very chocolaty cake - only 3 Tbsp. cocoa in the cake and in the frosting. (3 Tbsp. each). Hershey's cake has 3/4 Cup cocoa, their frosting 2/3 Cup cocoa. Just for comparison. The frosting is a bit too sweet. But the cake is still good.
10/5/08 I gotta go to bed now.
10/6/08 7:02 pm I better draw/write something before it gets too late. We opened the bottle of Hogue Late Harvest Riesling (SOOOO Good) and it went right to my head. Nothing of consequence happened today except I could not have booze. [I didn't scan this, but my handwriting is all scribbly from being drunk.]
10/6/08 Leftover from a weekend wedding. Usually boring red wine, white wine & cheap beer, but today: TWO CASES OF Dogfish Head Punkin Ale TAUNTING ME IN THE BREAK ROOM. Damn it. I should have stolen some -
10/6/08 Look at Lisa trying to draw while drunk.....
10/6/08 8:37 pm -the one with stitched paper.
10/6/08 = eyes & nose closer together = head tossed back. Go back to this, too. Don't crop it. I can barely draw while buzzed.
10/6/08 Don't forget the Huggies. and Self-confidence like a plant: And the Smiley Face:
10/7/08 12:58 pm Lunch almost over, but who cares - Boss Man is out. Oh, and Darla left at 12:30, so there's no one to notice I'm late. Last night when we got home, there was an apartment's worth of stuff strewn on the grass next to the dumpsters - furniture, bins, bags, piles. Like an eviction. Depressing.
10/7/08 The Self-Esteem Like a Plant image.
10/8/08 7:49 pm I'm tired. Bah. We were at Mike's till 10. Saw LOTS of deer - on the way to and home.
10/9/08 8:05 am 1996 Lisa vs. 2008 Lisa / 8:33 pm My drawing got messy. I'm tired.
10/10/08 8:28 pm Wow, have I had a Non-Week. Going back to work always does that to me. -Bah.
