November 1999 J. Pieces

 11/17/99 8:15 am I PETTED PORCH CAT!

 Steve and I came out and she (we think she's a she) was sitting on the A.C. unit across the way (or whatever it is). Sitting right at attention: she ran, then peeked back up over the unit edge.

 We went over and coaxed her out of the bushes. She kept darting away, then coming back, rubbing on Steve's leg, then around us, and back up by my side. She circled us like this several times (we were crouched down do we could pet her).

 She's a pretty cat. Light green eyes. Very sleek. And she's a big cat. She has bells on her red collar. And, her face isn't all black. She has a big white spot on her chin! And white whiskers.

10/5/99 8:55 pm. Steve came home early. He's having some of the "cheesesticks" I made - essentially a pizza with olive oil, garlic, and just a little cheese. A little while ago, I was in my favorite place:

10/12/99 8:25 am. At the bus stop. Yes, the LATE bus. (Sigh.) Forgot to mention: on the way home last night, I saw Porch Cat on his porch! He was squatted down, with his ears back. He probably heard me squealing, "Porch Cat!"

10/18/99 How could I have forgotten this?! Car Cat is truly Car Cat! He crawled into the car through Steve's door, drooled on the passenger seat, clawed the seats, pranced back and forth, jumped into the back seat - then I got him out.

10/21/99 Oh, yeah! I saw Porch Cat on his porch - on the railing - with his owner, who was on his porch swing.

 10/23/99 11 o'clockish. am. We're on our way to pick up Marilynn at the airport. It's a clear cold day. The heat came on, and I had to open a window. And: nothing like a house guest to get the apartment clean! I just realized I have no film.

 10/23/99 6:43 pm. Marilynn and I are having a lazy evening while Steve is at work. I made us alfredo Italian Spinach pizza for lunch/early dinner. Marilynn & I have been sitting around talking, except for a short walk to the liquor store for white wine for fondue.

I took this with a tripod and self-timer on my good camera. But I centered on Steve, so when I got in the picture, it became off-center. Oh, well. I've always loved this picture of us.

 10/27/99 This morning, Mooshie meowed at Marilynn - demanding attention! Marilynn let her sit in her lap. AND: Marilynn took Griffin's side! She said, "Oh, your life would be boring with two Mooshies."

 10/27/99 5:26 pm. Steve made us his Famous Dish. He made the Italian Spinach, Browned the Italian Sausage, then put them together with the Alfredo sauce while he cooked the noodles - then he put the mixture in the noodles, added more parmesan cheese, and put it in the oven for a bit.

10/28/99 So, we're on the 1:38 bus. Going downtown. We may or may not make the cruise (2:30 pm). 2:38 pm. We made it! They saw us running down the hill. They're blowing the horn... [Marilynn and I went on a Riverboat Cruise.]

10/30/99 7:07 pm. Watching Emeril. (we introduced Marilynn to him - she loved him!). We were wondering how Mooshie would react to Marilynn leaving (her lap is gone!). I threw Marilynn's pillow on the floor. Mooshie is sleeping on it.

 9/14/99 5:20 pm Steve picked me up from work. Car Cat was out, so I went out with my camera. I tried it yesterday, but he was gone. I took a picture of Button's tree. The bumblebee tree is out of bloom - I'll get that in the spring. Using up vacation film.

If you look closely, you can see him drooling. Check out my ginormous glasses. When I got new glasses in Seattle, they told me, "They don't make them that big anymore!" Thank God.

9/21/99 It's hard to draw something I'm not looking at - But Steve was holding me like this a little while ago. It was so nice. He said he needs to do this when I'm stressed.

  9/29/99 8:00 am Well, fuck. I'm at work. BOY, could I NOT get up this morning. It rained in the night, which made me want to sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep.

9/29/99 Oh, no! I just realized the black moods have returned! Help!

9/29/99 I need to get rid of the obsession. It's the thought that bothers me. Sorry: I looked up and Griffin was sleeping with his head upside-down! On his hind leg! [I had been writing about my credit card debt level - obsessing over how to pay it off.]

4/12/99 7:34 am - at the Bus Stop. Starting my day with an odd moment:  a man walked by on the other side of the street carrying a big bed mattress on his head.

4/12/99 When Sandra & I went out to get donuts, I saw another interesting man walking down the street, this time with a big straw hat on w/fruit on top. I said, "That's an interesting hat." I told Sandra about the mattress guy. She said, "He had an interesting had, too!"

3/1/99 It just doesn't go away.

  

 3/21/99 Two sides of myself have been fighting over my body - that's the problem. The high blood pressure is putting pressure on me to lose weight! And, in a hurry! My Goddess Woman is fighting for body acceptance.

3/25/99 Tuesday, I took leftover chicken enchiladas for lunch. The Telerecruiting Gals sat at my table. Nancy wanted to know what I was eating. "Oh, how do you make yours?" So, I tell her:  boil chicken, cut it up, put in a can of green chilis, onions & garlic, spices, some cheese, roll up in corn tortillas..."Oh, you mean Doritos?" "No, corn tortillas. Put cheese on top & bake." So, she says, "Well, here's what you gotta do next time:  crunch up some Doritos and put them in a pan. Put in a can of Cream of Mushroom Soup and a can of Cream of Chicken Soup.  Layer it with cheese and bake!" That's our White Trash Cooking Tip For The Week! [These days I cook the chicken in an iron skillet. I did discover at that time, by accident, that if you cook the chicken with onions and garlic and let it sit overnight, the flavors are more intense. I was putting the stuff together and Steve wanted to go out to dinner, so I put the chicken mixture in the fridge. The next day:  Yum!]

2/2/99 6:50 pm. DOES MY HEAD HURT. Silly Griffin sleeping half-way on a pillow.

 

 2/11/99 My Sweetie is home sick today.

[No date - I missed writing a date?!] The Spineless Manager. I think if I just ignore the problem, it will go away. I can't make a decision. I can't back up my staff...someone might get mad at me.

2/13/99 Sandra told me that Thursday, as Dan was assembling her new credenza, Mary (of "Magnolium" fame) came up and informed him that the credenza is a Mexican dance. "We shall eat the chalupas and dance the credenza!"

2/22/99 Got to do more drawing. I like my work better when there's lots of drawings. (furiously drawing)

 

2/22/99 I realized, looking in the mirror, that my face doesn't look much different to me than it did when I was 15. I think that disappoints me a little....?

2/23/99 Am I pathetic. After the Staff Mtg, I got this bad HEADACHE - Steve picked me up. I took 2 Tylenol & a long nap. He had a hard time waking me up.

2/23/99 Steve & I played 2 rounds of Mag Blast - now it's 10:25 pm & time for bed.

2/25/99 My Sweetie! He wanted me to draw him, too!

2/28/99 I am very very happy in my Home Life. In fact, my Sweetie has been all clingy & Lovey today! But my professional life, my work life - well, it sucks!

Follow-Up to January 1999

I mentioned that I was making little Sculpey gift boxes. We went to a Chili's and right inside the door on a counter they had a mini Christmas tree surrounded by these little gift boxes that looked like they were made out of Sculpey. So I bought a bunch of Sculpey and made my own (I made a set for Jami, too). I also beaded and sewed a felt tree. I still have them. I tried to take a picture of them, but it didn't come out very clear.

January 1999 J. Pieces

Jan. 1, 1999 The first day of a brand new year! And a lot of 9s to write...all year long! I've spent the day making little Sculpey gifts...I really mean gifts - presents - boxes with bows (like the ones I saw at Chili's). They're so cute!

Jan 1, 1999 All day long, as I worked, Griffin slept on a plastic bag full of fabric that I had on the table. He kept me company all day long.

1/6/99 Kitty! With an airplane head!

1/8/99 Kitty! Watching birds? I made whistling noises, and Kitty looked at me! Didn't move, though.

1/10/99 I slept in late today. I tend to be unproductive when I sleep in late. I've done a few dishes, and wrapped the shower gifts. And now I'm just HANGING AROUND, watching Maid to Order.

1/19/99 Funny Mooshie Drawing.

1/31/99 On the elevator last week, Mary was complaining about the new tile outside the first floor elevator. She wanted to know, "How come they didn't use the same MAGNOLIUM like in the lab?"

1/31/99 Steve called Mooshie a lump of coal. But we determined she's too big. Steve dubbed her "THE BOILER."

1/31/99 Steve spread out green felt, "forest" fabric, cardboard buildings and green steppes for the Heavy Gear battle. I got my Gears kicked - I killed one of his five, he killed four of my five!
