The December Project is Body Month. I will work on the two chapters from the book Inner Excavation by Liz Lamoreux that deal with the body, Chapter 4: I see me, and Chapter 5: I look closer. They both have to do with the body, self-portraiture, and 'where we stand' in our lives. Also, our thoughts about our body and challenging what photos or images of our body should look like. I got hung up in these chapters when Liz did the Inner Excavate Along earlier this year. It's time to face by body issues head-on.
I'm not sure yet how the month will go. But I know I want to draw my own naked body, looking in a mirror. Weeks ago I taped some drawing paper together on one of our closet doors, because I wanted to draw my body for the November Project, something I have been thinking about for awhile (drawing naked). But I didn't get around to it - I had too many other projects for November. But now December is only about the body.
So this evening I finally did a sketch, using colored pencils. I brought home some newspaper, too, the best cheap art surface. I don't intend to make artwork to keep. These are exercises, to really look at my body and see where I stand, now. Also, to work on my proportions, which seem to be off. I found the drawing where I measured my body proportions from a photograph of myself. I need to figure out why my drawings are out of proportion and work on fixing that.
Here is December 1st Sketch:
