Warmth and Flora is a working title for my next artwork series. I wanted to address Springtime, and the relief of warmth and the greenery of Spring after a long cold grayish brown Winter, but without too many Nature cliches.
I flipped through my photos and scans and pulled out images that I wanted to consider. They may find their way into new artwork in one way or another or they may merely inspire it. I'm heading down a new path, so I don't know where I'm going to end up yet.
I have so many images pulled that I am going to put together several Idea Notebooks. This one is on The Big Figure. I realized recently that when I made the last two Big Figures, I then got scared and tore them up, claiming they weren't 'right,' they were too big, I can't afford to stretch such big canvases, blah, blah, blah.
The first was the Big Red Figure, which I made by gluing 18x24 canvases that I pulled off the stretcher bars. It was so heavy it regularly fell down off the wall - masking tape wasn't strong enough to hold it up.
The other Big Figure was the Angel:
I am trying again. I will post photos on the current canvas, which I determined needs to be a seated figure (will explain later):
These are still on my mind:
