Week 2 of Inner Excavation involves looking into the past - which Liz explains can be all the way back to childhood, or even just a few weeks ago. Since I already wrote so much about my life (see Category My Life Story) I wasn't going to go back and revisit. However, the one period of time I kind of glossed over was after The Crash.
I wrote about what I call 'Moonlight' in this blog post. Before we moved into our apartment, one night at my brother's house, I got out of the car and the full moon was shining so brightly it lit up the yard. I was struck with this strong desire to strip naked and run across the grass. That feeling stayed with me and in the years since I have often returned to it, making artwork and trying to make sense of it.
And I was still trying to come up with methods for doing my artwork, and making a mess.
This time, however, I finally dug up the meaning.
It was never about running naked through the grass. It was a message, a metaphor. It was telling me to really honestly unflinchingly express myself.
