Recently we purchased some Balsamic Vinegar.
The bottle was on the shelf in front of the cheaper price (it may have been $2.19). When we checked out, our groceries were about $10.00 more than we guesstimated. Since it was the second weekend of shopping (mid-paycheck) we had to track our spending. We examined the receipt and saw that the Balsamic Vinegar rang up at $10.79. Looking at the bottle we saw that we purchased 20 year old Balsamic Vinegar. The cheaper bottle wasn't on the shelf - the one we bought was the only one there.
But, you know what? We're worth it.
After all, (when we have the money) we spend $16.00 on a 12-pack of Upland Dragonfly beer, and that only lasts a couple of weeks. Sometimes we spend $9.99 on a 6-pack of Dogfish Head beer. And a bottle of Balsamic Vinegar lasts months! Perspective!
Steve made his Signature Dish: Sausage Spinach Alfredo. This time we garnished with Balsamic Vinegar and fresh tomatoes. It was quite good with these additions. (Pasta + Balsamic = Delicious)
Symon has been very happy with the new schedule, with Steve's new job. We think he is calmer because we are calmer.
I just searched my blog and I have never posted a recipe for Steve's Signature Dish. If anyone is interested, I could do a blog post on it sometime. It consists of sauteed Italian Sausage, fresh spinach, and a homemade alfredo sauce (Bechamel). Served over pasta with Parmesan cheese for garnish. In the past we have resorted to 'Lazy Man's Alfredo' as Steve calls it (jar sauce - we like Classico brand) and frozen spinach. But it tastes so much better with a homemade sauce.
