Martha Becks' new book, which we call The Wayfinder Book, came out in January 2013, and we ordered a copy right away. We have been reading this book and doing these exercises for two years now.
I continued to fill up my Lovely Dream Big Journal:
I glued in my four Fairies at the end of the ALD Big Journal. They were completed in December of 2012 (Dark Fairy) and February 2013 (the rest). I also worked on the Fairies in my Butterfly Journal. Here is a post showing all of them done.
This long figure is from February of 2013. It has some writing about how I don't belong here.
This Mask piece is from March of 2013. There is a lot of messy layering and also drawing and painting on top of layered canvas and paper. I liked doing this for awhile - it was like drawing on a stone wall. But then I realized it just made the drawing difficult, and wasn't interesting enough to be worth the effort. In the end, it just looked messy.
In Suzi's Fairies class she used a medium called Absorbent Ground. The local art supply store gave me a small sample jar of it, so I brushed it on and drew/painted this face on it. I didn't like working on the surface at all (it's supposed to make canvas more like watercolor paper). I posted a pic on my Twitter and one of my Twitter friends said she liked it.
Symon is Two post.
As always, I did a lot of writing and notetaking in spiral notebooks. I also did some drawing in them. Later, I didn't want to keep the whole notebook, so I tore out pages I wanted to keep, and later still glued them into my Bloomington Big Journal:
While reading about the Green Nation in Martha Beck's Wayfinder book, I began to feel a connection to the trees around me. One morning while walking into work I had a strange feeling from the plants in this huge planter outside my building, like it was a message (although I'm not sure what the message was - I thought it was something about my drawing but then I wasn't sure). I took photos with my cell phone which I then downloaded from Twitter and printed. Later they weed-whacked the entire planter down to the roots.
A story about Symon getting a Puff-Puff.
Some sketching of Symon:
In August of 2013 I wrote this post about feeling lost, and still working on the Martha Beck exercises.
As always, Symon is a source of happiness for us:
The end of 2013 I finally decided to start writing and posting about My Life Story (a new category) and the theme of Building a Bridge Back. And I spent all of 2014 posting about my life from childhood up to before we moved from Laurel, MD.
